GRAPHIC DESIGN ASSISTANT APPLICATION

Thank you for your interest in the graphic design assistant position. If you love to work with your hands on a variety of interesting projects, sometimes involving computer-aided design, this might be a great fit! I am a solo-preneur who can teach a lot about design principles and how projects go from concepts to finished products, so if working with one other person as a very small team sounds good, then please proceed to filling out an application. The assistant will work in my home-based office in a loft in West Oakland, and sometimes in my nearby shop space (acquiring January 2026). Please note that this is not a full-time position nor does it call for design talents on a daily basis. If you are expecting either full time work or lots of design work, this is not a position for you.  

Studio Y is a design studio which has been in business in the Bay Area since 1995. I specialize in design and marketing services for small businesses, especially restaurants and businesses you know and love. Please view the website to see the types of clients we serve and projects we accept.

We will review applications as they come in and interview only those who seem like a fit. If you are contacted for an interview, please prepare a few questions to make sure this position is also a fit for you! We’ll do a trial day or two to test your exacto skills, and you’ll be compensated for your time regardless.

WORK WITH ME!

What A Day At Work May Look Like:

  • Printing and trimming posters and recycleable event signage (must be proficient with an x-acto knife)

  • Trimming banners and mounting them into stands or applying grommets

  • Taking design projects into print production phase*

  • Assisting in installation of storefront and vehicle graphics*

  • Making edits to menus, documents, and other materials already designed, using design software*

  • Performing basic photoshop tasks

  • Scheduling social media posts

  • Creating reels for social media

  • Placing copy and photos into websites

  • Running errands to pick up materials or drop off signage locally

    *will train you in all aspects of this task
